The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

Knee high to a big grasshopper

HayMakingWindow051012Looks like the Oaten Hay is ready for cutting. The seeds are milky when squeezed and starting to fill, so better to cut sooner rather than later to keep some goodness in the stem and keep the “heat” in the oats as low as possible. Thoroughbred needs low energy food to keep his feet on the ground. There are some good dry days ahead, so the plan is to cut it on the 8th, turn it a couple of times on the dry days and bale it around the 18th.
