Seedy Sorrel

2013-01-22 06.53.27I spent some time this morning handpicking sorrel out of the irrigated summer paddock.  I think it is worse than my Arch Nemesis Dock, as not only does it have the thousands of seeds, it also throws out runners or “creeping underground stems”.  I am hoping that the kikuyu will help choke it out in the paddock, especially if we get some fertilizer on it.  This will be the major target of our weed eradication across the property this year, which will unfortunately involve chemical spraying.   We have slashed any accessible places a couple of times to reduce the size of the seed heads, but where we didn’t get, the branches are now over 40cm long and looking more like dock the bigger they get.
