The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

Pecked and Picked on

20130506 012Billie got attacked by crows again this morning then pecked at by the rest of the flock until she hid in some long grass.  She did look like a sad and bedraggled little creature, especially when I saw her walking up the paddock on her own in the middle of the day.  I was relieved to see her back with the flock later in the afternoon.  I hope she soon learns to fly from danger rather than hunkering down, but it is probably another 5-6 weeks until then.  The Young Ones were about 16 weeks old when they looked like strong flyers.    It was a bit of a gamble letting Bill and Ben out so young, but I still think they were more likely to be accepted as young birds – and the flock has been teaching her, although sometimes the lessons seem a bit harsh.
