The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

A Welcome Lull

20130502 028The wind had dropped unexpectedly first thing this morning, and after 2 days of rain and howling wind – with gusts overnight to 90kmh – it was quite a relief.   It was a short-lived feeling as the wind soon cranked up again and brought more showers.    We got another 25mm yesterday, so it will be interesting to see how much rain we total for May in 3 weeks time.   The rugs almost came off the horses  around 10am when the sun came out, but the wind chill factor swayed the argument and the frequent showers validated the decision.  I opened the chicken coop for the first time in 2 days, but the 4 girls were all nestled in sand baths soaking up the sun and not one moved a muscle or made a dash for the door.  It is good that they are happy to stay in their coop, but they all eventually had some time free ranging.Wind_lull_100513
