Scleroderma Polyrhizum

20130603 001We have a lot of these puffballs around the compost heap and in some of the vege beds.  I have had difficulty getting a definitive identification, beyond being an earth ball or puffball.  If it is the Scleroderma Polyrhizum, it is also known as the dead man’s hand.  There are over 100 different scleroderma species listed in wikipedia.  It also looks a bit like the Mycenastrum Corium.  I hope it is not poisonous.
