The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

Success!

2013-09-16 16.13.03After kicking the kids off her injured teat for the last week, Midge finally let Crumpler feed from it this evening.  I had just gone in to try and get Midge on the Milking Stand for the first time, and while she was half on, Crumpler latched on and had a quick feed.  If the udder looks very full tomorrow, I will milk her a bit to take the pressure off, but if I milk, I have to disinfect with iodine which I think will be a bit off-putting for Crumpler.  The scab still looks quite painful, so I will keep massaging in the teat care cream.  It is such a relief, as the kids will need more milk as they grow and would probably not got enough if they were both still feeding from the same teat.
