Vaccinations

20131103 023Smudge was due for her bi-annual vaccination and at 7 weeks, the kids were due for theirs.  Midge had been vaccinated 4 weeks prior to kidding to give them some early immunity so this was essentially their second dose – although their first needle.   The vaccination is to prevent Enterotoxemia – pulpy kidney disease (which causes severe diarrhea and even death) and Tetanus. We were warned that this vaccination often causes a knot or cold abscess” at the injection site.   We got Smudge on the milking stand for hers and she was quite good, but the kids squawked when Brad tried to hold on to them.  I think I felt the pain of the needle as much as they did.
