Rat Trap

20131113 021This is the third rat I have caught this week and it is a whopper, the block he is on is 600mm wide.   There were actually 2 in the trap 2 days ago, but I didn’t take a photo.  I couldn’t believe that two had been caught at the same time, and both had been caught and killed by the neck.   We moved up to a big snap trap as our little safe n sure mouse traps were no match for these critters.  We first noticed something awry and realised we had rats when the mice caught in the traps were being eaten before we got to them.  I actually prefer the rats to mice as they don’t seem to pee everywhere so the feed shed doesn’t smell like it did when we had a lot of mice.   Having said that I don’t really want the rats here either as they will attract snakes.   Hopefully we can get the numbers down before the snakes get on the move.  The foxes manage the rat carcass disposal.
