The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

Barely a splash

20140324_175146All afternoon, I had been watching the rain radar with fingers crossed for some rain to break the long dry.  We had a couple of light showers in December – which didn’t even register in the gauge – but have had no real rain for 4 months.  The rain barrel in the goat paddock has been empty for a couple of months, so we have had to fill it every couple of weeks and transport it back in the tractor bucket.  The barrel at the chook pen is almost empty too.  When the front arrived over the property, there was not even enough to wash the dust off the greenhouse. We have experienced the rain shadow before, but it had looked as if we would get something.
