Mama has gone Broody
Only a few days after I was gloating over the number of eggs being laid, Mama has gone broody. She doesn’t leave the nesting box and pecks at my hand quite angrily when I come to collect the eggs. I have left her a couple of decoy eggs for the moment, but if she stops eating and loses condition, I will take them away too. We were going to get some day old chicks around the end of the year, but we might have to get them a couple of months early. Last year we kept her and young Chicken and Rumples in a separate cage away from the original 3 girls, but this year, we will leave them all in together. We will keep them inside for the first month or so until they get their proper feathers and are big enough to run and hide.
