First Bottlebrush Flower
Half the property is covered with Jarrah/Marri/Banksia forest with a fantastic range of trees with wonderful blossoms, but we don’t have many flowering shrubs. We planted quite a few in front of the spotted gum plantation to soften the look and have different layers, but unfortunately we had a dry winter after planting and lost most of them. In the same year, we also got 300 reeds, sedges and other plants to re-vegetate around our dam (which overflows to the Buayanyup creek) through our local catchment protection group Geocatch. Because they were planted in and around the dam, on the creek line at the foot of our valley, they survived a lot better and this is one of those plants. It is a Callistemon of some sort and I love the way you can see the flower filaments unwinding from the buds.
