I had opened the door a few times in previous days, but they wouldn’t cross the threshold. I went into the cage and encouraged them to go out, instead of just walking through the door, they all had to flap and fly out with a lot of noise. They discovered the joys of dandelion leaves. It was difficult persuading them to go back in, but they had never seen the cage from the outside, so I could understand their reluctance. I got them all in except the oldest bird Murray and a sidekick. I left them out, but they were waiting at the door of the cage to get back in when I went to feed them in the evening to my great relief.

I let the young Guineas out for their first taste of freedom this morning.
