{"id":1414,"date":"2013-03-08T15:56:00","date_gmt":"2013-03-08T07:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/?p=1414"},"modified":"2013-03-10T11:14:07","modified_gmt":"2013-03-10T03:14:07","slug":"one-of-those-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/2013\/03\/08\/one-of-those-days\/","title":{"rendered":"One of Those Days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/2013-03-08-12.44.32.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1397\" alt=\"2013-03-08 12.44.32\" src=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/2013-03-08-12.44.32-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/2013-03-08-12.44.32-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/2013-03-08-12.44.32.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The power went out when the I was\u00a0in the middle of baking bread, running the dishwasher and washing machine, and hanging out for a coffee after letting the young guineas and chickens out. \u00a0 The main concern of course was the two week old fluffy guinea fowl relying on the heat lamp in the brooder to stay warm. \u00a0 Not to mention the lack of internet and the ability to do my job.<\/p>\n<p>Before I had time to think about the next steps, I saw that\u00a0Flash had stepped over a low bit of the previously horse proof fence. \u00a0 I dashed out to get\u00a0him away from our newly planted olive trees, back to the other horses and into their yard. \u00a0When I got back I could hear a suspiciously loud guinea fowl and realised I had left the patio door open when rushing to protect the garden. \u00a0Fortunately I have spoken to these birds every day of their lives and although they are still essentially wild birds, they are not too frightened of me. \u00a0 They are still not sure about the magical properties of glass, but \u00a0he sidled out when I fully opened the sliding door. \u00a0I was relieved that there was no poo in the house.<\/p>\n<p>So back to the power, fortunately we designed the house so we could plug the house supply into a generator and flip a switch to get power. \u00a0I got the full (and heavy) generator into the back of the ute and drove it over. \u00a0 It is only 2.8kw, so I turned off the washing machine, dishwasher and water heater and pulled the cord. \u00a0 It started on about the third pull, which for me is pretty good. \u00a0 The bread carried on baking, I had a coffee and when I checked the internet, I saw that the mains power was due to be reconnected in another 2 hours. \u00a0My fallback in case I couldn&#8217;t get the generator started was to put a blanket over the guineas&#8217;
