{"id":2900,"date":"2013-06-09T20:13:27","date_gmt":"2013-06-09T12:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/?p=2900"},"modified":"2013-06-10T20:31:11","modified_gmt":"2013-06-10T12:31:11","slug":"whistling-kite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/09\/whistling-kite\/","title":{"rendered":"Whistling Kite"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/20130609-009.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2813\" alt=\"whistling kite\" src=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/20130609-009-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/20130609-009-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/20130609-009.jpg 871w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/09\/hunted\/\">Guineas alerted<\/a> us to another bird of prey and this time it was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birdsinbackyards.net\/species\/Haliastur-sphenurus\" target=\"_blank\">Whistling Kite<\/a>. \u00a0It has a similar colouring to the <a href=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/26\/not-so-little-eagle\/\">Little Eagle<\/a> I saw in February, but the long flight feathers on the wing tips are more splayed and the wings are longer and carried straighter. \u00a0The underwings have a characteristic pale &#8216;M&#8217;
