{"id":4269,"date":"2013-08-17T20:32:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-17T12:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/?p=4269"},"modified":"2013-08-19T20:53:45","modified_gmt":"2013-08-19T12:53:45","slug":"laughing-kookaburra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/17\/laughing-kookaburra\/","title":{"rendered":"Laughing Kookaburra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/20130808-030.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4114\" alt=\"20130808 030\" src=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/20130808-030-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/20130808-030-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/20130808-030.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I got my first reasonable pictures of our iconic Australian Laughing Kookaburra. \u00a0 A couple were in the same tree, but by the time I got the camera organised one had flown off. \u00a0 They are a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tree_kingfisher\" target=\"_blank\">Tree Kingfisher<\/a> and despite their name, don&#8217;t necessarily fish! \u00a0This is a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laughing_Kookaburra\" target=\"_blank\">Laughing Kookaburra<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.birdsinbackyards.net\/species\/Dacelo-novaeguineae\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Dacelo novaeguineae<\/em><\/a>) and is native to eastern Australia but introduced to Western Australia. \u00a0Male and female adults look similar, and I think this was a pair, they pair-bond for life. \u00a0 \u00a0They kept dropping down into the goat paddock for prey which hopefully will keep any mice attracted to the hay under control.
