Although <a href=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/2013\/09\/06\/first-feed\/\">Crumpler started feeding on the left<\/a>, she has swapped to the right, so now both kids are feeding from the same side. \u00a0The result is that the left side got engorged and tender and Midge was kicking the kids off whenever they tried to feed. The scrape looks like has caught herself with her hoof. \u00a0 \u00a0We aren&#8217;t actually prepared to start <a href=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/10\/preparing-for-milk\/\">milking<\/a>\u00a0as we were going to leave the kids with her until 3 months and only then separate them over night so we can milk in the morning. \u00a0Brad hung on to her and I milked a goat for the first time. \u00a0Because the udder was so engorged, the milk sprayed about 3m across the paddock! \u00a0I tried milking her into a bucket to start with, but she kept<a href=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130910_173538.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4680\" alt=\"20130910_173538\" src=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130910_173538-300x168.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130910_173538-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cathmiller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130910_173538.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> putting her foot in it so I gave up on that and just sprayed it all over the ground. \u00a0There is more rain due overnight, so it will get washed in. \u00a0Hopefully with the reduced pressure, Midge will let them nurse on that side, but she might not until the wound has healed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Poor Midge has a bruise and scrape on the left side of her udder which looks pretty painful.
