It is very difficult to get the mix right as you just have to judge by texture. The ratio of clay to sand should be 1:3, but it is still trial and error as we don;t know the exact proportion of clay in our &#8220;clay soil&#8221;. \u00a0 We ended up with mix closer to 2:3. \u00a0It felt gritty, but held its shape when a golf ball sized ball is dropped from waist height. \u00a0 We mixed the sand and clay dry in the mixer then added water. \u00a0This fire\/heat layer should be at least 70mm thick and the next cobb layer which has straw mixed in for strength should be about 150mm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We mixed our first batch of adobe.
