The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

Firebreaks

DSC00700Coastal Earthmoving Contractors put in 2 trafficable firebreaks to excise about one third of the forest. The plan is to back burn to the first break, but the second one is the fall back in case the wind turns. I had marked the routes to avoid taking out any major trees. The local bushfire brigade are coming to do the burn tomorrow. We had so many different opinions on whether to burn and when to burn that we didn’t know what to do, but decided to do it before the burning season ends in November. We are happier having reduced the fuel load before the house arrives in 6 months.
