The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

Goldie Killed by Snake

Goldie 001Goldie had lost her limp and was back to normal by the 27th of January, but 2 days later she was dead. Brad found her in the shed just after 11 with a couple of puncture wounds on her face and a dark purple comb. We assumed it was the Dugite that we had seen in the shed and under the hay stack outside. She was still warm and floppy when I picked her up. We buried her and will plant a Golden Wattle on her grave in winter. She was head chicken and may have gone for the snake to protect the others. We are not sure how the other chickens will behave without her, we will just have to watch and wait.
