Dragonfly Day

20130310 013The promised showers didn’t eventuate today with 0.4mm recorded in Busselton.  Just after 3pm I went to check the level of the dam after over 3 months of irrigating the summer paddock and found loads of dragonflies.  The wind had completely dropped and with the cloud cover gone, it felt hotter than the 30 degrees it said on the gauge.  The dragonflies were coupling up all over the place, there were a range of different colours and sizes, but it seemed that the poor female was grabbed by the head and dragged off somewhere. I found this description in National Geographic. I found them even harder to photograph than the birds as they flew very fast, but I have put an album of images on Facebook.
