The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

20130510 019Smudge is half Saanen and half Nubian, which means she should be the perfect milker for us.  The Saanens produce lots of milk, but the Nubians produce a slightly sweeter milk with more fat that is less likely to taste goaty.  We won’t know this for 18 months as she is only 9 months old and won’t get bred until next year.  She is impatient to be a mum and has been in season for the last couple of days and is constantly calling out and “flagging” her tail for attention.  She won’t see a buck until next year, but at least we will be able to read the signs that she is ready.
