The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

30 millimetres in 30 minutes

overflowing gutterWe don’t often get torrential rain in the SW of WA, but this morning we did.  We had 8mm in a couple of showers overnight, but just after 9am the clouds opened.  The gutters couldn’t cope with the volumes and even the oat paddock looked like a swimming pool as we got over 30mm in under 30 minutes. I will have to go and check our little sprouted oats to see if they survived the flooding.  27 yo Bowie had sensibly taken shelter in the trees, even with his rug on, and was soon joined by young Flash, but 22 yo Auspicious toughed it out, jumping whenever the thunder rolled.   With only a week to go we were 100mm down on the June average, so today’s downpour of 58mm will get us back on track.
