The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

Rainbow Ridge

20130716 061We haven’t named the property yet, but Rainbow Ridge pretty well sums it up.  We are about 120m above sea level on the edge of the Whicher Range, and have a ridge running through the property.  Being so high, we have big open skies and in winter see lots of rainbows.  This was the first time I had seen it touch the ground so close.   We had about 15mm of rain during the day, but it came in short squally showers – with occasional hail, accompanied by strong winds.   The horses stayed in their heavy rugs for the whole day, for the first time this winter.  The temperature didn’t get above 12 degrees and the apparent temperature hovered around 8 all day.  The wind chill was quite shocking and gusted to about 80kmh here and over 110kmh on the coast.  I stayed in by the fire all day, apart from going out for the animal rounds.
