Rats in the Rockpile

20130804 031Shorty the sort-of-farm-dog has been very interested in the pile of rocks we have pulled out of the oat paddock over the last few years. I found out why when walking over to feed the guinea fowl.  I saw 2 large grey-brown furry things scuttle across a couple of rocks and disappear.  I am hoping that they are a nice Australian Mammal like a Quenda/Southern Brown Bandicoot, but most of these mammals seem to be nocturnal, and I have seen our furry things between 4 and 5pm.   We definitely have some small carnivores living near the shed as most of the mice that we caught in the traps were chewed up overnight – with only the heads in the traps left intact.
