The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

Introducing Rose

20130906 140She pretty much looks like Bambi, but with a light patch on her head rather than a dark one. Her ears are nicely shaped and speckled.  I was surprised that she has wattles on her neck – Midge doesn’t have them.  These fleshy dangly bits serve no real purpose and I don’t really like them.  I specifically chose Smudge because she didn’t have them, even though some of her siblings did.  It is a common trait in Swiss Dairy breeds, so they probably came from the Saanen sire.  The old wives tale is that it is a sign of a prolific breeder and good milker.  Because she is so cute, I am sure I will get used to them.
