The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

Flare Up

20140410 063Brad went off to to help mop up the neighbour’s fire with the Kaloorup Bush Fire Brigade at 5pm.  As I was walking back from feeding the guinea fowl just over an hour later at 6.15pm I saw the fire “crowning” in the distance.  I wasn’t concerned, because I thought the crew was there……  I later found out that the fire had been extinguished and the crew had left about 10 minutes earlier.   The fire spread to the creek line and took off.  I think about 6 brigades and a number of neighbours ended up fighting the fire and Brad didn’t get home till after midnight.  I felt a bit guilty as if I had texted Brad when I saw the fire crowning they would have known to go back earlier rather than noticing the red sky after it got dark.
