Ants Forecasting Heat?

AntForecasterAboriginal weather knowledge has been learned by observing nature for thousands of years.  One of the theories is that when ants cover nests with tiny, heat-reflecting quartz stones, there will be extreme heat or fires.

I found a nest this morning and will photograph it regularly over the next few weeks to see if there are changes during the days, weeks or months.  There are more white stones than black, so maybe we will have more hot weather with the new tropical cyclone pushing in.   This nest was in the open, but we also saw another in the forest with much bigger ants, but I couldn’t find it again today.  I will keep looking as it had more sticks covering it when we saw it, which may have been aForecast response to the unseasonably cold nights down to 10C.
