It was a surprisingly overcast day, so I thought I would look at the ants nest to see if it looked different on a cloudy day compared to a sunny day. It did. There was a lot more activity, though I took this photo in the morning and the other in the afternoon. I saw some ants bringing material out of the nest and others bringing in white silica sand, so I am not sure if the redder tone is the final version. In the coming and going photo below, you can clearly see the difference between the arranged sand and the natural lie of the land. It looks like the 2 ants pictured are checking entry/exit credentials. We are expecting a cooler night tonight, so it will be interesting to see how it looks this afternoon and tomorrow.
