Preparing for Milk

20130810 007For my birthday this week, Mum bought me a milking pail, milk strainer and two 5 litre cans, so I am ready to start milking.   I will chill the can in an esky full of freezer blocks and water, then strain the milk into the can as soon as I finish milking.  Chilling the milk as quickly as possible reduces any goaty taste in the milk.  The cans fit in the vegetable crisper so when they are down to temperature, I can put them in the fridge before bottling for drinking or making cheese.   At 18 weeks of her 21 week pregnancy, Midge apparently still has 4 weeks to go, but it seems her udder is getting bigger by the day.  I had a dream that her udder kept growing and was almost touching the ground by the time she had her kids. 20130810_172444
