The Country Diary of a GenX Woman

And then everything stopped

M E Muir 1927 – 2014

Eight years ago today, my mum died and this blog died with her.

I had been documenting life on the farm for her, so she felt she was part of it, even though she never saw it. Every year, I printed a big book of all the stories I had written and the photos I had taken. I was due to fly back from Australia to Edinburgh in Scotland to see her 10 days later, but I didn’t make it in time.

I didn’t have the heart to continue, so everything stopped. I threw myself into looking after Smudge and her baby goats which arrived only 3 days after I arrived back from Mum’s funeral.

I revisited the site once in November 2014 to put up a quick link about the goatsmilk soaps I had started making. My partner worked away, so I was home alone half the time and couldn’t keep up with all the milk so started making soap.

I also started spinning as a therapeutic hobby and joined the local guild. In the past 12 months we have lost 6 of our members including, in the past 3 months, my two closest friends there, one of whom had became my surrogate mum.

I decided that 2022 was the year to start writing again, so I logged back on.

A few of the plugins and apps had been superceded in the 8 years, but the technical issues were sorted out by some fantastic technical support from webhostinghub and the site has come back to life.
